This year went by so quickly. It’s hard to really believe it’s already been one year.
I’ve been playing that game where I think… last year at this time I was…
Last year at this time I was… driving to Boston to pick up P’s brother and getting a flat tire with his parents in the backseat…
Last year at this time I was… sneaking out of the house to get my feet secretly hennaed during a torrential downpour, and I was certain it would rain through our entire wedding…
Last year at this time I was… at our rehearsal dinner, with our close friends and family…
(As I type this) Last year at this time… I was helping S-di, M-dai and P set up chairs in the Hindu temple, then going to the hair dresser with R and AS to have my hair pinned up, then going to S-di’s house to be folded and pinned nicely into my wedding sari along with the other sari wearing ladies.
By 3:30 we were both at the temple, and a little after 4pm the ceremony began.
It was exciting, and fun, and crazy. I had an amazing experience with all our friends and family, and I was so happy to be marrying my best friend and life partner.
A year crept up on us fast. But I look forward to many many more. You truly are the best match for me.
Here is one of my favorite pictures from this time last year… post-wedding #1:
Congratulations! This is really making me want to have our more formal wedding reception :D
Same here! Our wedding was small and simple. But I really wish we could have had some more Nepali traditions as well. We decided that we will have a 5 year wedding anniversery party and do it then :)
wow
Happy Anniversary C. Wish you hundreds more in future.
Happy belated anniversary C. :) I had the esteemed honor of having my ceremony done in Kathmandu. :) We did a courthouse marriage here in the states to get her greencard paperwork done, but then got to go to Nepal to do the actual ceremony. It was amazing! 5 weeks running around Nepal with my Nepalese family. It was so much fun. We’re married now almost 10 years, though just 5 since our Nepalese wedding.
That must have been quite the experience! Was your family able to come to Nepal for it?
No unfortunately. My mom had passed away by then and my father was a dead-beat and never around, so I didn’t want him there anyway. He was an old Kentucky hillbilly anyway, so he probably would have complained about the lack of amenities. He passed away a few months ago though, so no big deal.
My real answer is, technically…my family wasn’t there, but the family I care about was. ;) Make sense? I’m loved and respected by my wife’s family and I love and respect them back. They are the parents that I wish mine had been when I was growing up.
I love it when you get all sentimental! :) This is sweet. I’m so happy for you!
Happy Anniversary C and P, wish you another blissful year of togetherness ahead :)
Happy Anniversary C,..wow I just realized with this post that I’ve been reading your blog for over a year then..hehe

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY FROM ME TOO. I am one of the newest reader of this blog and what amazing you have made it. I must appreciate your opinion towards life and respect for everything. And your hubby is a lucky man. :-)) take care.
What kind of gift suggestion would you have for an American wedding of a Nepali couple. She is a good friend and I am kind of her American “mom”. Is there anything the mother of the bride brings as a gift?
Hi Melodi,
I think it is common for Nepalis to gift money during weddings. If you plan to give money it is customary to give an extra dollar for good luck– so like $51 for example.
Sorry for the delay in answering!

Hello, I think I saw you at the palm beach, Florida nepali dasai party. I was in a pair dance with my friend on Darpan chaya.
