(This post was accidentally posted yesterday– however, due to time difference P and I were confused. Saraswati puja is today, but happened yesterday in Nepal because they are so many hours ahead of US time.)
I never know exactly when South Asian festivals are happening– until someone tells me or I see posts on Facebook– so I think it’s nice to have reminders sometimes :)
Thus… Happy Saraswati Puja everyone. Since I work at a university, and P and many of our friends are graduate students, as well as quite a few readers, I figured it would be nice to wish you all for the day. May your studies and productivity be fruitful.
Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of learning. So it seems appropriate. May she help you when you need inspiration to learn and finish your school work. If you are like me, you probably need this inspiration all the time to help you focus.

It was Basant in Punjab in Pakistan, yesterday, too. In PK it is just a spring holiday of kites and yellow colors and done without any religious ritual like Basant Panchami. I don’t really know the origins of the holiday, just that its celebration in PK is indigenous/a Hindu cultural retention. It isn’t celebrated across PK but is especially loved in Punjab province. Are Saraswati Puja and Basant Panchami the same holiday?

Oh, scratch that, my mistake, I just looked at the Pakistani Basant announcement and it is going to be later at the end of this month. Is Basant celebrated in Nepal?

in all of the north india basant panchami is celebrated. in some parts (bengal and bihar ) and in nepal that is also the day for saraswati puja.
yes it is also called basant panchami in nepal…starting of spring. but we dont fly kites on this day….mainly saraswati puja falls on this day..so ppl wrship goddess ….thats the main attraction..it is said that ….before ppl used to propose gals on this day…like eastern valentine’s day.hehe
